Project Context

B&B Hotels had to roll out SpeedBooking, a new booking platform, across a portfolio of more than 600 hotels. The deadline was short and the constraint explicit: deliver without oversizing the team.

A programme of that scope usually mobilises a large team for over a year. Here the question was the opposite one: what does it take for a small team to ship a complete platform, and keep it maintainable once it is live?

The answer was not to write code faster. It was to change what the engineers spend their time on.
